Netherlands Subsidizes Emission-Free Construction Equipment

The Dutch government’s Scheme for Clean and Emission-Free Construction Materials (SSEB) is driving adoption of sustainable equipment on construction sites. A recent report shows the subsidy is helping the Netherlands approach goals for cleaner air and reduced nitrogen emissions. Applications submitted in 2025 are projected to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by 1.2 million kilograms and CO2 by over 300,000 tons by 2032.

Interest in the program is growing, with applications for clean construction equipment increasing from around 1,000 in 2022 to nearly 1,700 in 2025. Companies increasingly request subsidies for heavier machinery and favor self-contained battery packs over grid connections. The SSEB also funds both the purchase of new emission-free machines and the retrofitting of existing ones, alongside innovation projects.

The Netherlands’ Enterprise Agency (RVO) is currently processing more applications than available funding allows, though subsidies remain available for charging infrastructure and feasibility studies.
