Czech Hospital Begins Supplying Cannabis to Patients Nationwide

A hospital in Brno, Czech Republic began distributing domestically grown cannabis to patients across the country. For ten years, the hospital faced skepticism while pioneering medical cannabis cultivation. The first batch, named Johann in honor of Gregor Mendel, a famous Brno geneticist, became available after the hospital secured all necessary permits.

Previously, Czech patients primarily accessed imported cannabis from South America and Canada. This new supply offers a local alternative, cultivated from both hemp and cannabis indica, with a specific 10:11 ratio of THC to CBD designed to maximize pain relief while minimizing psychoactive effects.

The hospital also operates an international training center, educating healthcare professionals on cannabis cultivation and processing. While over 800 Czech doctors are registered to prescribe medical cannabis, around 300 currently do so in practice. Health insurance covers 90 percent of the cost for patients.
