Prague to Add Air Conditioning to 123 Trams for Cooler Commutes

The Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) signed a CZK 395 million contract with Enika to install air conditioning in 123 older Škoda 15T trams. The project will take several years, upgrading at least 20 trams annually alongside their regular maintenance.

Currently, only 16 percent of Prague’s trams are air-conditioned. Once completed, approximately two-thirds of the fleet will have cooling systems, alongside the newer Škoda 52T trams already equipped with air conditioning.

DPP intends the upgrade to address passenger complaints about hot conditions during summer heat waves. Passengers will identify air-conditioned trams via a snowflake symbol on information boards and apps, and upgraded trams will feature yellow front panels like existing cooled vehicles.
