Why this is here: The study showed 80 percent of participants who worked with a social worker maintained housing for a year, suggesting support services are crucial for long-term stability beyond financial assistance.

A Czech study found that providing homeless individuals with 100,000 CZK improved housing and employment rates. The “New Leaf Czech Republic” project tracked 100 participants starting in late 2024. Researchers compared direct financial support with intensive social work to determine the most effective method for ending homelessness.

Participants primarily used the funds for necessities like food, housing, and clothing. Those receiving the grant spent 6,000 CZK more on housing and 10,165 CZK more on clothing in the first month. Employment increased from 50% to 80% among grant recipients after one year.

Housing stability was highest among those paired with social workers. Eighty percent of this group maintained housing long-term, also reporting improved mental well-being.

The CZK 12 million project received funding from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and the European Social Fund. Full results are expected in September.
