Developer Builds Self-Hosted SEO Platform to Cut Costs

A developer created SEO Command Center, a self-hosted platform, after becoming frustrated with the high monthly costs, up to $139.95, of existing SEO data subscriptions like Ahrefs and Semrush. The developer found the wholesale cost of the underlying SERP data to be significantly lower, around $4 a month via APIs such as DataForSEO.

The platform aims to replicate features found in paid SEO tools including rank tracking, keyword research, competitor analysis, and site audits. It’s built with specific architectural choices, using only standard Python libraries and SQLite, to minimize dependencies and simplify deployment.

SEO Command Center is now available as an MIT-licensed open-source project on GitHub. The developer intends to improve the tool through community contributions and hopes it will help others reduce their SEO expenses, noting it lacks a backlink index found in tools like Ahrefs.
