Hyundai Builds Korea’s First Waste-To-Hydrogen Facility

Hyundai Motor Group launched HTWO ENERGY Cheongju in South Korea, a facility that converts waste into hydrogen fuel. The new plant aims to bolster localized hydrogen production and decrease reliance on hydrogen transportation. It integrates biogas upgrading, hydrogen production, and compression technologies.

The HTWO ENERGY Cheongju facility will produce around 500 kilograms of hydrogen daily. Hyundai intends this to be the first of many such facilities, expanding Korea’s hydrogen ecosystem and supporting the country’s energy independence.

The company hopes this waste-to-hydrogen technology will contribute to a circular economy and reduce carbon emissions. Future plans include scaling up the technology and deploying it in other regions.
