Why this is here: Lu Jinfeng actively incorporates hands-on learning, evidenced by her course where students conduct interviews and develop engaging educational materials like a “Monopoly”-style drinking water health game.

Nankai University professor Lu Jinfeng carries on a three-generation family commitment to water resource protection and research. Lu, a professor of Environmental Science and Engineering, has received multiple teaching awards and serves as a chief expert for Tianjin’s ecological environment bureau. Her family’s history with water began in Shanxi province, where her grandfather worked as a rain gauge assistant despite limited resources.

Lu’s father dedicated his career to solving water shortages through large-scale water diversion projects. This upbringing inspired Lu and her siblings to pursue careers in water resource protection. She focused her research on drinking water safety, tackling issues like algal blooms in the Yuqiao Reservoir.

Lu integrates practical learning into her teaching, developing innovative courses like “Service Learning: Drinking Water and Health.” This course encourages students from diverse disciplines to address water-related challenges and promote conservation within the community. She emphasizes the importance of combining professional expertise with a sense of social responsibility.
