China-Europe Railway Reaches 10,000 Trips Through Xinjiang

Freight trains traveling between China and Europe surpassed 10,000 trips in 2026 via ports in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, specifically Alataw Pass and Khorgos. A train departing for Poland on July 17th marked the milestone.

The railway now facilitates the daily transport of over 200 types of goods across more than 220 routes to 21 countries and regions. Authorities credit “smart customs” and 24/7 border services with dramatically reducing clearance times.

Export clearance now takes one hour, a reduction from six, and import clearance is under 16 hours, down from two to three days. Border checks themselves have been reduced to under 20 minutes. The railway’s continued expansion aims to further streamline trade between China and Europe.
