Azerbaijan Rebuilds Over 40 Villages

Why this is here: Azerbaijan is building new homes and infrastructure to support roughly 85,000 people now living in ten cities, three settlements, and thirty villages within the Karabakh and Zangezur regions.

Anar Guliyev, Azerbaijan’s Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture, announced construction continues in more than 40 liberated villages. He spoke at the World Urban Forum 13 currently underway in Baku. Experts from 12 countries contribute to planning sustainable communities with modern infrastructure.

Approximately 20,000 people currently live in rural areas of these territories, with another 85,000 residing in ten cities, three settlements, and thirty villages across the Karabakh and Zangezur regions. Each village project integrates education, healthcare, administration, and broadband internet access. New houses are under construction to support resettlement programs.

Guliyev noted the focus is on creating small-scale, nationally-based economies. The reconstruction process remains extensive, and the full impact of these efforts on long-term community stability is still unfolding. WUF13, attracting over 40,000 participants from 182 countries, continues to May 22.
