Kazakhstan Fast-Tracks Waste-To-Energy Investment with China’s Tianying Inc

Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov instructed Kazakh government agencies to expedite an investment project with China’s Tianying Inc to build modern waste-to-energy plants across Kazakhstan. The decision followed a meeting between Bektenov and Tianying Inc President Cao Debiao, focusing on deploying environmental and energy technologies.

Currently, Kazakhstan implements municipal solid waste recycling projects via investment agreements and offers a feed-in tariff of up to 55 tenge per kilowatt-hour for electricity from these plants.

The planned facilities will process 250 to 500 tons of municipal solid waste daily, targeting regions that don’t need large-scale infrastructure. The Ministry of Ecology has two weeks to finalize negotiations and submit an agreement for the construction of plants in at least three major cities. This move signals Kazakhstan’s commitment to improve waste management and attract sustainable investment.
