Turkic Ecology Dictionary Unveiled in Baku

Why this is here: The dictionary translates about 5,000 ecological terms into eleven languages, including nine Turkic languages and both English and Russian.

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources hosted a presentation of the “Dictionary of Ecology Terms of Turkic Languages” today. The International Turkic Academy published the dictionary, with Academician Shahin Mustafayev serving as scientific supervisor. Professor Elman Yusifov of Azerbaijan and scientists from other Turkic-speaking countries contributed terms to the project.

The resulting dictionary includes roughly 5,000 ecological terms. These terms appear in eleven languages—English, Russian, and nine Turkic languages. These languages are Azerbaijani, Bashkir, Kazakh, Karakalpak, Kyrgyz, Uzbek, Tatar, Turkish, and Turkmen.

Aynur Mayemerova coordinated the scientific work for the dictionary’s creation. The dictionary’s scope does not currently extend to all ecological subfields or variations in regional dialects. Further research may expand the dictionary’s coverage in the future.
