UK Announces Neighbourhood Guarantee

The UK government announced a Neighbourhood Guarantee, promising improvements to public services across England. Up to 25 areas will participate in Community Power Pilots, co-designing local services with residents. New measures address concerns about the number of vape shops and gambling premises appearing on high streets, giving councils more control over businesses.

Mayors will gain additional powers, including approval of major transport projects. While the government is committed to giving communities more control, the effectiveness of these reforms—and the specific metrics for measuring success—remain to be seen. The work to shift power from Westminster to local areas continues with these new initiatives.
