New Species Discovered in Cambodia’s Limestone Caves

Why this is here: The collaborative survey identified three previously unknown gecko species, adding to the documented biodiversity of Cambodia’s karst ecosystems.
Researchers discovered new species within Cambodia’s karst ecosystems during a recent survey. Fauna & Flora, an international wildlife conservation charity, led the work. Cambodia’s environment ministry and field experts also participated in the survey.
The survey revealed a diverse range of wildlife living in the country’s limestone caves. Researchers identified three new gecko species during the expedition. Additional previously unseen species were also found within the karst ecosystems.
The karst landscape provides a unique habitat for various plants and animals. This environment supports a high level of biodiversity. The findings highlight the ecological richness of Cambodia’s lesser-known regions.
