Scarlets Sign Welsh Rugby Deal Amid Ongoing Uncertainty

Scarlets signed the Professional Rugby Agreement (PRA) with the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) in Llanelli, Wales, ending a year-long dispute and joining Cardiff, Ospreys and Dragons in approving the deal. The agreement provides increased funding of £6.5 million over two years, a rise from the previous annual amount of £4.5 million.

Scarlets signed despite recently reporting a £2.1 million loss for the financial year. The club views the PRA as a step towards securing its future as it celebrates 150 years.

However, the deal only guarantees the four regions’ existence until the end of the 2027-28 season. The WRU still plans to reduce the number of professional teams from four to three, a decision that has faced strong opposition. The governing body has delayed announcing specifics of this reduction.
