Scottish Musicians Seek to Transform Glasgow Venue Into Rock Hall of Fame

A group of Scottish musicians and industry figures are attempting to transform Glasgow’s Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA) into a Scottish Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The CCA closed earlier this year following financial difficulties. ScotsRock, the organization leading the effort, envisions a multi-use space including a permanent exhibition, live performance venue, educational programs, and a hub for creative businesses.

Midge Ure of Ultravox and Band Aid will serve as the inaugural Patron of ScotsRock, with support from artists like Lulu, Jim Kerr of Simple Minds, Travis, and Del Amitri. Organizers note Scotland’s outsized contribution to global music merits its own dedicated hall of fame, citing the American Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland as a model.

Creative Scotland, which owns the building, is currently accepting proposals for its future and previously offered the CCA £1.28 million annually. Other groups, including theatre and dance companies, also seek to utilize the space. The future of the building remains uncertain as Creative Scotland has not endorsed any specific plan.
