Northern Ireland Dancers Compete at Dance World Cup

Dancers from Northern Ireland competed at the Dance World Cup (DWC) in Dublin, representing their country after qualifying from a pool of over 120,000 dancers worldwide. Forty-two dance schools united to form Team Northern Ireland at the competition, which began in 2004 and is known as the “Olympics of dance”.

Several young dancers overcame personal challenges to participate. Faye, the team captain, balances intense training with managing Type 1 diabetes. Eight-year-old Penny, who has scoliosis and wears a back brace, earned two bronze medals while competing.

The event fostered a sense of community among the dancers, who normally compete against each other. They emphasized the joy of collaboration and making friends with competitors from countries like Canada and China. Team Northern Ireland brought home multiple medals and top-ten finishes.
