Renegade Zoo: Londonderry Band Champions Inclusive Music

Renegade Zoo, a band formed from the Tuned In Project in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, is gaining recognition for its inclusive approach to music and songwriting. The alt-pop group consists of young adults with learning disabilities who are neurodivergent and physically diverse. They released their debut album, Eyes on the Road, in March and have since performed at festivals including the Foyle Maritime Festival and Stendhal Festival.

The band members emphasize that Renegade Zoo is about self-expression, friendship, and breaking down barriers. Many had limited opportunities for songwriting before joining the project, but now collaboratively create songs that range in style from rock to hip hop, often with positive messages or playful themes.

Renegade Zoo is currently writing new material and discussing future plans, which range from a Northern Ireland tour to a larger UK tour. They hope to continue fostering confidence and creativity through their music.
