Why this is here: The project uses a practical approach, having students briefly experience physical challenges—like using crutches to carry items—to illustrate the daily realities faced by people with disabilities.

Fifth and sixth grade students in Mol, Belgium are learning about life with disabilities through interactive activities. Volunteers with disabilities share their experiences with the children. Students participate in games and courses designed to simulate various impairments, including visual and hearing loss.

Nele Lauwen, a volunteer with autism, emphasized the importance of inclusion. She noted many people have never interacted with someone with a disability. Bart Deckx, who uses a wheelchair, explained some children are surprised he can walk even while using a wheelchair.

An Stroobants, another volunteer, demonstrated the challenges of daily life with a disability by having students perform tasks while using crutches. She highlighted the fatigue experienced and emphasized that living with a disability isn’t a choice. The activities aim to promote understanding and encourage helpful behavior.
