WWII Military Camp Recreated in Belgium Honors History

Eddy Louis, president of the 300th Engineer Combat Battalion Reconstitution (300ECBR) in Belgium, organized a gathering at the Fort of Tancrémont near Banneux this weekend. Louis and other “reconstitueurs” collect American WWII equipment as a way to preserve history.

Louis began his collection with items from his parents and grandparents and expanded it after discovering an old British army crate. He restored the crate and now displays it in his personal museum.

Reconstitutors believe understanding the past is crucial for informed perspectives on the present and future. The event at Tancrémont featured a display of WWII vehicles including jeeps, tanks, and motorcycles, offering a tangible connection to the war’s material history. The group aims to educate through immersive historical recreation.
