Soignes Forest Days Return to Belgium

Organizers plan three days of events celebrating the Soignes Forest in Belgium, starting May 17th. The first event takes place at the Solvay Regional Estate in La Hulpe, featuring guided walks and meetings with forest managers. A “Grand Bioblitz” will launch, asking citizens to document biodiversity using the “ObsIdentify” app with help from volunteer naturalists.

On May 30th, activities move to Boitsfort for the 40th anniversary of the Tournesol association, including a forest concert. The final event on October 18th will be held at the Tervueren Arboretum and Groenendael Bosmuseum, where visitors can see an ecoduct built to help wildlife cross a major road.

The Bioblitz relies on public participation to fully map the forest’s biodiversity. Future research will need to assess the long-term impact of the ecoduct on animal movement.
