Chaudfontaine Unveils Sculpture Marking Flood Recovery

In Chaudfontaine, Belgium, officials inaugurated a giant water bottle sculpture on July 13th to commemorate the fifth anniversary of devastating floods. The sculpture honors the resilience of the local community and the rapid recovery of the Chaudfontaine bottling plant. Floodwaters reached 3.65 meters high, destroying much of the facility, but the source water remained unaffected and production resumed within 33 days thanks to dedicated employees and volunteers.

The rebuilt plant features state-of-the-art, energy-efficient machinery including new compressors, solar panels, and a hydraulic turbine. These investments aim to improve the plant’s sustainability.

Local leaders emphasized the importance of remembering the floods and preparing for future natural events. The sculpture serves as a visible reminder of the challenges faced and the community’s determination to rebuild and move forward.
