Why this is here: Resident Marguerite Punnel, 89, shared her experience living at “Moulin à Cailloux,” emphasizing how the model allows her to maintain her freedom within the constraints of a care facility.

A delegation from the “Moulin à Cailloux” retirement home in Tournai, Belgium, presented their organizational model in Paris. The home has used the Swedish “TUBBE” model for five years, focusing on positive autonomy, participation, and relational care. Marie Neto, the director, Audrey Disy, the social worker, and resident Marguerite Punnel represented the home at a seminar.

The TUBBE model allows residents to live more independently. It utilizes working groups with both residents and staff. New projects originate from the residents themselves, like a self-serve breakfast buffet accommodating individual schedules.

The model has increased staff autonomy and responsibility. The director now functions as a coach, and teams collaboratively create schedules.

The home aims to foster a warm, familial atmosphere despite being a large institution. The Gérond’if research center may visit Tournai to study the model further.
