Lessines Teachers Stage Symbolic Funeral

Teachers from the Royal Athenaeum of Lessines, Belgium held a funeral procession on Thursday for “quality education.” The teachers carried a mock death notice stating the education died in Brussels after a long decline. They walked to the old cemetery and laid flowers near the school to honor the teaching profession.

Teachers at the Royal Athenaeum of Ath also protested. They wrote messages in chalk on the sidewalks and handed out flyers to people at the weekly market.

These actions join other protests across Wallonia Picarde against budget cuts and a new “Programme” decree slated for a vote. The teachers express concern about the future of education despite these demonstrations.
