Brussels Leader Prepares Dutch Speakers for State Reform

Benjamin Dalle, chairman of the Flemish Community Commission Council in Brussels, announced the creation of a “Consultation of Dutch-speakers” to prepare for future state reforms. Dalle expressed concern that the interests of Dutch-speaking Brussels residents are often overlooked, particularly during government formations where some French-speaking politicians have shown little respect for them.

He noted a thriving Flemish community in Brussels across schools, cultural institutions, and welfare services, but one that frequently has to fight for its relevance. Dalle criticized both the federal government and Flanders for not consistently supporting their capital city.

The “Consultation” will include academics, community organizers, politicians, and other voices to develop a unified vision for the future of Dutch-speakers in Brussels ahead of the 2029 institutional review. Dalle hopes this collective effort will ensure their concerns are addressed during upcoming state reforms.
