Brussels Neighborhood Stages Miniature “Big Jump” for Water Quality

Hundreds of Belgians participated in The Big Jump, leaping into rivers, lakes, and canals across the country to advocate for improved water quality. In Sint-Joost-ten-Node, local collectives herbronnen.ressources, Fors vzw, Meow collective, and Josée organized a smaller version of the event.

The Sint-Joost event featured a dip into an inflatable pool filled with water sourced directly from beneath the Pacific-woontoren building. Brussels council member Marie-José Byl and parliament member Lotte Stoops also joined the playful protest.

Organizers framed the action as a “fight for cooling” and a call for better water management in the city. The local initiative mirrored the larger national effort to raise awareness about water pollution and advocate for cleaner waterways.
