Volunteers Search for Girl Missing Since 2010

In Rēzekne, Latvia, volunteers from “bezvests.lv” and local residents are searching for Kristīne Volkova, who disappeared in 2010. The nine-year-old’s case remains open to Nataļja Paramonova, her mother, who hopes to find closure despite the passage of sixteen years. Though police closed the case after ten years, citing Kristīne’s missing status, the organization believes clues remain along the Rēzekne River.

Volunteers are focusing on inaccessible areas along the riverbank, hoping to find clothing, containers, or skeletal remains. Jekaterina Kabinkova explained the team measures potential finds to determine if they are human or animal. Locals like Dainis joined the search because the case involves a child and occurred in their community.

The search over the past weekend covered a large area, but the team acknowledges the difficulty of finding small details after so much time. The volunteers plan to continue their efforts, but acknowledge finding a living person is unlikely.
