Croatian County Funds Homes for Young Families

Osječko-baranjska županija in Croatia is actively working to reverse population decline by providing financial support to young families. Over the past four years, the county has seen a net migration increase of 1423 people, including 169 children returning to the area.

As part of the “Naša Slavonija i Baranja, naš dom” program, the county recently awarded 369,500 euros in grants to 33 young families to assist with the purchase, construction, reconstruction, or adaptation of homes. The grants range from 3000 to 10,000 euros, depending on family size and financial need.

To date, the program has supported 119 families with a total of 639,500 euros distributed. The county also plans to build family homes and apartment buildings in rural and suburban areas, offering long-term affordable rental options with the possibility of eventual ownership after a ten to twenty-five year period.

The program has garnered significant interest, prompting a budget increase from 500,000 to 640,000 euros. The county anticipates investing around 10 million euros in housing for young people over the next four years, viewing it as a key strategy for demographic renewal.
