Sarajevo Commemorates Srebrenica Genocide with Art and Film

Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina today hosts several events to honor the victims of the Srebrenica genocide and promote remembrance. The Historical Museum of BiH and SARTR will perform “Leave a Trace in Their Memories” this evening, uniting artists and citizens in a collective act of remembrance.

Kvartovsko Kino Grbavica screens the documentary “What’s Missing,” followed by a discussion with artist Aida Šehović and journalist Nidžara Ahmetašević, focusing on empathy and collective trauma. Additionally, the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo displays the exhibit “January 9th.

The Road to Genocide,” using archival materials to detail the events leading up to the genocide. The First Gymnasium Sarajevo and the City Hall also host programs including student-created content and a photo exhibit, "Silver Tears," documenting the aftermath of the genocide through the lens of photographer Ahmet Bajrić.
