UK Invests £1 Billion in Electric Commercial Vehicles

Why this is here: Wren Kitchens plans to integrate 44-tonne electric trucks into its fleet alongside rapid charging infrastructure, citing the funding as a key factor in maintaining operational stability during economic uncertainty.
The UK government committed £1 billion to accelerate the adoption of electric commercial vehicles. The funding addresses high costs and limited charging infrastructure. It supports two programs: the Zero Emissions Truck and Van scheme and the Depot Charging Scheme.
The Zero Emissions Truck and Van scheme will cover up to 40% of electric truck purchase prices. Grants reach up to £81,000 for the largest models and £5,000 for vans. The program builds on an earlier £18 million investment and adjusts grant caps, now at £81,000 per vehicle, down from a previous maximum of £120,000 for trucks over 26 tonnes.
The government increased the budget for the Depot Charging Scheme by £170 million. This program will cover up to 70% of depot-based charging installation costs.
Funding is capped at £1 million per application for vans, coaches, and electric trucks. Minister Keir Mather stated the investment supports jobs and protects operators from fuel price volatility.
