Leicester Expands Electric Bus Fleet with Yutong

Leicester City Council in the United Kingdom ordered 10 more electric buses from Yutong through Pelican Bus and Coach. The purchase receives approximately £4 million in government funding and will add to the 24 Yutong electric buses already operating in the city. These new vehicles will run on routes 20, 24, 81, 83 and 162, with delivery expected in early 2027.

The city’s investment aligns with the Leicester Buses Enhanced Partnership Scheme, which seeks to modernize the bus network through electrification, digital ticketing, and improved service. The council aims to own a fleet of 34 electric buses with this latest order.

Operators within the Leicester Buses Partnership anticipate having around 200 battery-electric buses in service by the end of 2026, with Arriva planning to add 65 more electric buses by 2028. This expansion could make Leicester’s bus network almost entirely electric in the near future.
