Volvo Delivers 22 Electric Buses to New South Wales

Why this is here: Volvo partnered with TAFE NSW to create dedicated safety courses for maintaining the new electric bus systems, addressing the unique requirements of high-voltage components.
Volvo delivered 22 electric buses to Transport for NSW (TfNSW). The buses support TfNSW’s New Bus Services for Western Sydney program. They also contribute to the state’s Zero Emission Buses Program.
The electric buses utilize Volvo’s BZL Electric chassis. Volgren bodied the chassis locally.
Eighteen buses will run on five new routes connecting Penrith, Oran Park, Campbelltown, Liverpool, Mount Druitt, and Leppington to the new airport. Four buses are already in service on existing routes.
Volvo’s BZL Electric platform offers low-noise operation and zero tailpipe emissions. The platform accepts three to five 94 kWh NCA battery packs.
Battery options range from 282 kWh to 470 kWh. Volvo presented the platform in 2021.
The company employs over 1,400 people in Australia, with 400 in New South Wales. Volvo also developed safety courses with TAFE NSW for high-voltage bus systems.
