Ganfeng Lithium Produces 10Ah Solid-State Batteries

Ganfeng Lithium in China began small-scale production of 10Ah solid-state batteries with an energy density of 500 Wh/kg. The lithium compounds producer, which holds roughly 45% of the global lithium metal market, announced the milestone in a recent investor update. Ganfeng supplies key EV battery materials to automakers like Tesla, Volkswagen, and Hyundai.

The company is pursuing two solid-state approaches—silicon-based and lithium metal anodes—with the lithium metal version achieving the higher energy density. Their 400 Wh/kg silicon-based batteries have already exceeded 1,100 cycles and are prepared for larger production runs.

Ganfeng developed a “zero-strain” lithium alloy anode and sulfur cathode to improve stability and prevent lithium movement during charging. While the anode expands only 3 to 5% during a full cycle, and the battery survived tests up to 250°C, scaling production and long-term performance remain challenges. The company continues to refine its technology and collaborate with automakers like Dongfeng and Changan.
