Imalu Tigers Win Back-To-Back Tiwi Islands Football Premiership

Imalu Tigers secured their second consecutive premiership at the Tiwi Islands football grand final, defeating the Ranku Eagles 75 to 50 at Wurrumiyanga Oval on Bathurst Island, about 80 kilometers north of Darwin. The annual game is a major cultural event for the Tiwi Islands, drawing thousands of locals and hundreds of tourists. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese attended this year’s match, marking the first time an Australian leader has done so while in office.

The Tapalinga Super Stars also claimed victory in the women’s division, defeating Jikilarruwu Thunder & Lightning 57 to 32 in a closely contested match.
