Libya to Upgrade Border Security with U.s. Inspection Tech

Libya’s Minister of Interior, Major General Emad Al-Trabelsi, announced meetings with a major U.S. inspection company to install modern equipment at all Libyan ports, airports, and border crossings. The move follows public anger over the recent detention of personnel accused of allowing unhealthy pesticides into the country.

Prime Minister Abdel Hamid Aldabaiba publicly criticized the Food and Drug Control Centre, calling for the replacement of its management due to failures in preventing the import of toxins. The government views upgrading inspection systems as crucial, acknowledging that local capabilities are insufficient to monitor imported food volumes.

Al-Trabelsi stated the project aligns with the Prime Minister’s directives and involves coordination with the Ministers of Finance and State. The government intends to address food safety, fuel smuggling, and illegal migration with decisive action and enforcement.
