Filipino Toddler Abandoned in UAE Returns Home

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and UAE authorities coordinated the return of a two-year-old Filipino girl to the Philippines on July 9, 2026. The child was abandoned in the UAE when she was four months old and subsequently cared for by the Family Village shelter in Dubai’s Al Warqa district.

The shelter provided the girl with a safe environment and supported her development while officials worked to finalize her repatriation. Cherrylene G. Girado, a Social Welfare Attache from the Migrant Workers Office in Dubai, accompanied the child on her flight.

Upon arrival at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the girl was placed into the protective custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for ongoing care and placement. The DMW stated the successful return demonstrates the government’s commitment to assisting vulnerable Filipino citizens.
