UAE Celebrates 55 Years Since Historic Union Pledge

Emiratis across the United Arab Emirates renewed their commitment to the nation on July 18th, marking the 55th anniversary of the 1971 pledge that established the UAE. The day commemorates a meeting of the Founding Fathers who signed the declaration of the Union and the UAE Constitution. Citizens reflected on the visionary leadership of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the principles of unity and resilience that underpin the country.

Many Emiratis expressed pride in the security, stability, and development the Union has brought to their lives, while also emphasizing the importance of preserving national identity and heritage. The observance of Union Pledge Day, officially declared in July 2024 by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, serves as an educational tool to instill national values in the youth.

Currently a commemorative occasion, not a public holiday, Union Pledge Day joins other national celebrations like Eid Al Etihad and Flag Day in reaffirming the UAE’s shared identity and future vision.
