Qatar Journal Examines AI’s Impact on Law & Justice

The Ministry of Justice in Qatar released the latest edition of the Journal of Judicial and Legal Studies, focusing on emerging legal issues impacting the country’s development. Volume 20, Issue 1, features peer-reviewed research on topics including artificial intelligence in judicial systems, data privacy, and consumer rights in electronic commerce. The studies assess how existing Qatari law applies to new technologies and institutional reforms, particularly as the nation pursues its Qatar National Vision 2030.

Researchers found that AI can improve judicial efficiency by analyzing case law and supporting legal research, but emphasize human judges must retain final decision-making authority. The journal also addresses challenges in assigning legal liability when AI systems cause harm, and the need for clear standards regarding algorithmic transparency and oversight. Further research examines the intersection of data protection, cybersecurity, and the growth of Qatar’s digital economy, finding that a comprehensive legal approach is required to safeguard individual privacy and national security.
