Qatar Leads Mena in Food Resilience

The National Planning Council in Qatar reports the country ranks first in the Middle East and North Africa in the Resilient Food Systems Index. Economist Impact created the index to measure a country’s ability to maintain food systems during crises. Qatar also placed among the top 20 countries worldwide, achieving first place globally in electricity access reliability.

The country’s success stems from its National Food Security Strategy 2030. This strategy focuses on infrastructure, monitoring, and food safety. Recent investments include expansion of Hamad Port and development of cold-chain facilities.

Qatar has also increased domestic food production with technologies like hydroponics. While the country shows strength in affordability and access, the index does not detail specific vulnerabilities that remain within the food supply chain. Continued investment and proactive policy are planned to maintain these gains.
