Jordan Observes International Day of Families

Why this is here: The National Council for Family Affairs has established ten family counseling centers nationwide to expand services and institutionalize the profession.

Jordan joins the international community on Friday in recognizing the International Day of Families. The National Council for Family Affairs (NCFA) in Jordan focuses this year’s observance on families, inequality, and children’s well-being. Over the past 25 years, the NCFA has developed strategies addressing early childhood, juvenile justice, the elderly, and child labor.

The council gathers data on Jordanian families’ conditions—demographic, social, economic, and health—to inform policy. They recently developed a national strategy for family counseling, establishing ten centers across the country. The NCFA also works to support working women through projects like “Bukra,” which addresses childcare needs.

Mohammad Miqdadi of the NCFA notes ongoing work with UN Women and UNICEF to train personnel on cybercrimes and gender-based violence. A new national plan for child protection and responses to domestic violence is in development for 2026–2030, but long-term effectiveness depends on sustained funding and coordination.
