Agility Robotics Urges U.s. Policy Focus for Humanoid Robots

Peggy Johnson, CEO of Agility Robotics, called on the U.S. to develop a national policy framework to support the growing humanoid robot industry. Johnson outlined six recommendations intended to strengthen domestic manufacturing and innovation in the sector.

These include closing the gap in sourcing key components currently dominated by international suppliers, specifically, she noted China currently accounts for 90% of permanent magnet production for motors, and adopting a coordinated national robotics strategy. She also stressed the importance of industry-led safety standards, workforce development programs to complement human labor, and lowering automation barriers for small manufacturers.

Finally, Johnson advocated for clear government procurement pathways for humanoid robots in logistics, supply chain operations, and defense. These recommendations aim to position the U.S. as a leader in humanoid robotics and avoid losing ground to countries like China, which has already set goals for mass production by 2025. The lack of action, Agility argues, could weaken domestic industry and impact national security.
