Monumental Secures $32M to Deploy Construction Robots in U.s.

Amsterdam-based Monumental received $32 million in Series B funding to expand its construction robotics business to the United States this year. The company develops autonomous robots and AI software, Atrium, that lay brick and mortar with precision. Monumental operates as a subcontractor, offering finished walls to construction companies rather than selling or leasing the robots themselves, thus mitigating financial and technical risks for contractors.

The robots already built walls for over 100 homes, as well as schools, hotels, and community centers in the Netherlands and the U.K. Monumental intends to address the significant labor shortage in the U.S. construction industry, which currently faces a deficit of 200,000 to 400,000 workers.

Adapting to varying U.S. building codes and practices is a key challenge, but Monumental believes its software-driven approach and experience in diverse European markets will facilitate integration. The company emphasizes that robots work alongside human crews, freeing them for more complex tasks.
