EU and Ukraine Partner to Boost Drone Production

The European Union and Ukraine signed an agreement in Kyiv to combine Ukraine’s drone warfare experience with European industrial capacity, aiming to increase production of drone and counter-drone systems. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the deal on Ukraine’s Statehood Day, emphasizing the need to merge strengths for joint production and increased investment.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated his country currently produces 10 million drones per year and expects to reach 20 million annually with partner assistance. The agreement will establish joint ventures between 19 European and Ukrainian defense companies, with an initial meeting planned in Brussels.

Participating firms from both sides specialize in various drone technologies, including aerial and naval systems. The EU has committed €1 billion from its €90 billion Ukraine Support Loan to fund these drone capabilities, following nine individual drone deals Ukraine previously secured with other nations.
